Location
A few kilometres to the northwest of Canggu, a towering banyan—one of the ‘elders’ of the tree kingdom—heralds the turning to Seseh, a traditional beachside village approached via an avenue of coconut palms.
The village of Seseh still retains the customs and culture of old Bali. Here, you will see the rice being planted and harvested in the fields, fishing boats returning in the morning with the nights catch, as well as frequent, colourful processions to the large beachside temple. There are no international restaurants here, but you might just see a barong dancing on the street. A Barong is a high-spirited, benevolent beast representing the power of good; danced by two men inside an ornate costume. The good news, for folks who want to immerse themselves in the customs and culture of old Bali, is that the people of Seseh encourage and welcome congenial visitors. There are now a number of private rental villas in this area, which have seamlessly integrated without in any way detracting from the simplicity and charm of the two villages.
Historically, the fishing village of Seseh was important in the 18th century when the temple was established as the major temple of the former Kingdom of Mengwi. At that time it was also a small trading port, inhabited by a number of families of Chinese decent. Likewise there are records of Chinese-style shop houses in Banjar Sogsogan during this period.
Today, this is an ideal destination for those who want to get lost in the beauty of the countryside, and for those who want to engage with the local people and gain privileged insights into the Balinese Hindu lifestyle.
Villa Semarapura is located 55 minutes’ drive from the International Airport and twenty five minutes drive from the busy shops, world-class restaurants and vibrant nightlife of Seminyak. It is just 10 minutes’ drive from Nirwana Golf Course, one of the best Greg Norman-designed golf courses in Asia; and close to Tanah Lot, Bali’s most dramatic and venerated sea temple. The majority of the island’s tourist attractions are also within easy reach.

Features
Bedrooms
The five expansive bedrooms are comfortable and spacious. All have timber floors and all are equipped with TVs, DVD players and iPod docks. Four bedrooms are furnished with king size beds and one is furnished with twin beds that can be converted to a king bed. All have walk-in robes apart from the twin bedroom, where the wardrobes are positioned in the corridor.
The standalone Master Suite is blessed with beautiful views. It features an entrance hallway, full length walk-in robes, and a bathroom with double washbasins and a double bathtub extending into a large private garden, which is the location of the open air shower. At the front is a covered terrace leading onto a timber deck with a Jacuzzi. Additionally, steps lead down to a private bale relaxation pavilion, bordered by plants for privacy. There is also a double hammock to enjoy the sea breeze.
Two of the guest bedrooms are complemented by a private garden area with a pergola covered daybed. There is a separate guest suite set on two levels comprising a spacious master guest bedroom with its own hallway, walk-in robe, large bathroom with double basins and private terrace area overlooking the lush gardens to the ocean. A twin bedroom on the lower level also has its own bathroom and garden level terrace.

Bathrooms
Ensuite bathrooms feature andesite floors, granite vanities, white bathtubs and walk in mosaic showers. Four of the bathrooms boast an outdoor shower as well as an indoor shower.

Living
The open air Living Room is accessed by a covered walkway, and rests on the upper level of a two-storey pavilion affording magnificent elevated views of the garden, the sea temple and Bali’s spectacular coastline all the way down to Uluwatu on the Island’s extreme southwest peninsula. This luxurious, comfortable living space is furnished with antiques and characterised by two distinct sitting areas.

Dining
Surrounded by ornamental ponds, the stand-alone dining pavilion is furnished with a glamorous chandelier and a circular dining table that can be extended to seat up to 15 people in air-conditioned comfort. The splendid view of the sea temple is preserved by floor to ceiling bi-fold glass doors, which can be fully opened to allow the cool breezes to permeate and create a more casual, alfresco dining experience.

Kitchen
Villa Semarapura’s designer kitchen reveals a discriminating taste for functional beauty and style, making it a social hub with family and friends. Crafted in polished granite with two islands – one of which supports its own sink – white cabinets, a tiled floor, a skylight in the roof, and a service bar with bar chairs, this featured kitchen is fully equipped with an imported oven and 5-burner hob, and everything else that the chef needs in order to prepare delicious meals, in accordance with the whims of his guests. A service area is tucked away out of sight at the back.

Swimming Pool and Garden
The property rests within an expansive landscaped garden complete with a private swimming pool and ornamental ponds. Dotted with coconut palms, the rolling coastal lawns are perfect for weddings, parties and functions. On the most elevated corner of the garden overlooking the beach, is a raised open-sided pavilion, known as a balé bengong – a peaceful haven for chilling out with a book, or enjoying a massage or a sunset cocktail.

In another part of the garden, a huge timber deck and barbeque is bordered by a large alfresco bar, complete with a drinks chiller fridge and bar stools. This area is specially designed to cater for events and weddings.
A tennis court, shared with the neighbouring villas, is available for the use of the guests.

Media and entertainment

WiFi Internet access, an intercom system, state of the art Bose sound system and a backup generator.

Weddings & Parties
The extensive garden, combined with the breath-taking coastal views, makes Villa Semarapura the ideal tropical setting for parties, weddings, reunion celebrations, barbeques and other functions. The sizeable modern kitchen provides the staff with the equipment and facilities to cater for a wide variety of events and a large number of guests. Special events can also be coordinated by professional outside caterers who have the world-class expertise to prepare a sumptuous feast at the villa, in addition to the coordination of decorations, flowers, lighting, sound systems and entertainment. The elevated lawn can be utilised as a stage for Balinese dance performances; the open-air deck area is perfect for a cocktail reception, and the garden is large enough to comfortably accommodate several hundred guests.
