Amanusa (‘peaceful isle’) provides a panoramic eyrie on Bali’s southern peninsula, overlooking Nusa Dua and the Indian Ocean.

Adjacent to the Bali Golf & Country Club, 35 thatched-roof suites are linked by walled walkways to resort facilities. Eight suites have private pools. All suites feature a queen-size, four-poster bed and bay-window sofa, plus an outdoor terrace with an oversized day bed and canopy for sunning and dining, as well as a garden courtyard. An expansive bathroom features an indoor sunken bathtub overlooking a lily pond, large dressing area, twin vanities and louvered cupboards, and sliding doors which open to a flowering terrace area where an outdoor shower has been built into the stone perimeter wall.

Amanusa’s Beach Club sits on a white sand surf beach, with kayaking, cruising and in-season surfing lessons among activities. Light meals and refreshments are served at an informal restaurant. Seaside massage is available at 10 open-air private bales, as are candle-lit barbecues and sunrise breakfasts.

The resort’s 20 by 24 metre pool is bordered by a flowering trellis, providing poolside and private dining options. Amanusa offers a boardroom with conference facilities and can assist in arranging corporate tennis or golf tournaments.

Location
Amanusa (peaceful isle) commands a garden hillside, located close to Nusa Dua overlooking the vast sweep of the Indian Ocean coastline. The bougainvillea-lined streets of Nusa Dua are dotted with boutiques and memorable restaurants, only a bike, walk, or short drive from the resort. A smooth manicured golf course, one of the most revered in Asia, separates the resort from the enticing ocean. A 30-40 min drive from Bali’s international airport in Denpasar, the process of relaxation begins swiftly.

Indonesia is the world’s largest archipelagic state comprising more than 17,000 islands, 6,000 of which are inhabited. The country shares land borders with Papua New Guinea, East Timor and Malaysia. Other neighbouring countries include Singapore, Australia, the Philippines, and the Indian territory of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The capital, Jakarta, is in Java and is the nation’s largest city. Indonesia has a large population of over 234 million people and despite this has vast areas of wilderness that support the world’s second highest level of biodiversity. Two-thirds of the total land area consists of woodland, mangrove swamp and forest.

Resort Overview
Amanusa’s design is influenced by ancient Hindu poetry, the surrounding miles of breathtaking views and by the spiritual and naturally peaceful lifestyle.

Enclosed as a secluded self-contained retreat, the resort is a relaxing microcosm of all things Balinese and seeks to ensure a complete respite from the hectic pace of the world at large.

As a result, rooms are spacious, authentically decorated in a soothing palette of browns, beige, cream and honey. All 35 thatched-roof suites have wooden four-poster beds, draped in white veils, with detailed attention to the essential ingredients for a peaceful sleep. The cavernous bathrooms feature sunken baths with directional lighting, enhancing the foliage alongside.

Each suite is enclosed in a sensuous tropical setting and an outdoor shower is built into a high paras-stone wall, seeding soft moss and fragrant white flowers beneath an overhang of ochre and salmon-pink bougainvillea. The walled garden courtyards are private and romantic, offering day and night alfresco dining.

Every suite has an outdoor terrace with a comfortable daybed beneath a protective canopy. Elevated walkways link the suites for easy access to the resort’s extensive facilities.

BALINESE MARKETS & SHOPPING

SHOPPING IN VOGUE

Amanusa is the perfect starting point here in Bali for a true shopping extravaganza. If you are
looking for anything from souvenirs to surf boards, batiks to baskets, fabrics to furniture; our guest
assistants can provide you with an exclusive list of recommendations featuring the best on the
island. Our drivers are available to escort you and give you any additional insight to your
personal needs and desires.

THE PASAR BADUNG

The Pasar Badung is the biggest traditional market in Denpasar located at Gajah Mada street.
This market offers supplies for daily needs such as kitchen tools, furniture, religious paraphernalia,
fruits, vegetables, spices, clothing, baskets and handicrafts. Denpasar is a vibrant place where
you will be able to experience everyday Balinese life.

TEMPLE TOURS

Religion dominates the day to day lives of most Balinese. Offerings that are made of palm leaf,
flowers and food are an art form associated with rituals or special occasions in Bali. The Balinese
incessantly produce these colorful and highly symbolic items for rituals and daily offerings to the
gods, demons and ancestors.

PURA LUHUR ULUWATU

Pura Luhur Uluwatu is poised 825 feet above the Indian Ocean thus in a stunning location. In
Bahasa Indonesia; Ulu means head, watu means rock and luhur implies heavenly, ancestral,
original and transcendent all at once. It was here where Dang Hyang Nirartha, a Javanese high
priest who brought renewal of Hinduism to Bali in the 16th Century, achieved the conscious
death called Moksa. This is the ultimate liberation from the process of transmigration – the
continuous cycle of birth and death.

PURA LUHUR BATUKARU

This temple is one of the six axial temples sacred to all Balinese Hindus. Standing in front of the
newly restored gates, it may take a moment to appreciate that this is one of the most ancient
sacred sites on the island. In the central temple courtyard are two large, long pavilions. The
inner courtyard is small and neat with the meru of three, five and seven tiers in honor of the
deified kings of Tabanan. The shrine in the center honors the goddess of Lake Tamblingan and
the god of Mount Batukaru.

PURA TAMAN AYUN
The most splendid reminder of Mengwi’s former glory is indisputably the Pura Taman Ayun.
Taman Ayun was built by the King of Mengwi, I Gusti Agung Anom, in the 17th Century. The small
wooden doors of the shrines here are beautifully carved. The surrounding moat gives the
impression of a sanctuary in the middle of a pond, explaining the name Taman “a garden with
pond”. This temple is a Penyawangan, or place to worship other sacred sites or temples. There
are three main courtyards which represent the three realms of the earth spirits, humans and the
gods. The entire complex symbolizes Mount Mahameru floating in a sea of milk.

TRADITIONAL VILLAGES
PENGLIPURAN
Situated in the Bangli regency, Penglipuran Village remains unchanged in its way of life and
architecture, despite the modern advancements around it. Penglipuran village is well known
for its tidy row of traditional Balinese entrance gates and its unique architectural traditions. The
village has also succeeded in preserving its 75-hectare bamboo forest located in the Northern
part of the village.
The forest consists of several different types of bamboo: Tiying Jajang, used as house
construction material; Tiying Tali, used to produce rope, plaiting works, and house roves; Tiying
Ampel, with short segments and Tiying Selem, a black bamboo. Have a look at every house and
you will see that all the walls are made from the same material – mostly clay, and the roofs
come from the bamboo taken from forest. The philosophy of living in harmony with nature can
be learnt from the people of Penglipuran
